Is this a good idea for a birthday gift?

Ok so my best friend of 11 yrs birthday just ped and a few friends and I want to do something special for her (by the way she's turning 19). So we were thinking we should buy a plain gold charm bracelet without any charms and individually we would buy symbolic charms for her then we would take her out to dinner at her fav place to eat and towards the end of the night we would take out the gifts and put the bracelet around her arm and add the charms on one by one and telling her what it means and why we choose it for her....is that a good idea or is it cheesy???
